The French language is full of surprises and the term “gazolette” is one of them…
Familiarly, the term gazolette is sometimes used to designate diesel transport trailers. We find some traces of it on the net by testing the word which refers to manufacturers of fuel transport trailers.
So you can call us to ask us for a gazolette, we will understand you!
So far everything is normal…
We also find the term as a synonym of diesel as a fuel: “I’ll see to fill up the next tank at Total. The last one was done on the highway, but with the normal gasolette, without additives”. (found in the Citroën forum)
It can also be found in humorous form, as here in a mood post from the newspaper L’Alsace of November 8, 2017: “In today’s edition, we learn that by drinking tea, we take dozens of pesticides in full cup! But since everything that does not do us good does not seem to do harm to the state coffers, let them continue to tax everything more and more: smokers, gazolette, sodas and other cans, sweets, butters, … ”
Gasolette registered trademark?
But it has not always been a diesel trailer and we learn that the name was registered as a trademark in the 19th century by the Godin establishments, as a device intended for cooking food!
A tip all the same, do not try to cook on your gazolette…
